Christopher Tolen, Psy.D.

Chris has been working with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families since 1991. He has worked with teens involved in gang activity in Los Angeles, with victims of crime, and with youth who were incarcerated in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He has also worked extensively with adolescents, young adults, and families in his private practice, in residential treatment centers, and in wilderness programs, where he provides individual, family, and group therapy and administers extensive psychological and psycho-sexual evaluations. He has helped many families throughout the nation assess and treat multiple disorders and addictions. After tens of thousands of hours of intervention and assessment, Chris developed a unique model and curriculum for youth and adults returning home from residential and/or wilderness treatment that has caught the attention of therapists, education consultants, and parents nationwide.

Chris has worked as the Director of Testing Director for RedCliff Ascent Wilderness Treatment and was the Executive Director of Medicine Wheel at Redcliff. For years, he has been completing psychological evaluations in wilderness programs, residential treatment centers, homes, and hospitals across the country. He is skilled at assessing personality, academic issues, and neuropsychological concerns. During his spare time, he provides psychological evaluations to individuals in wilderness and residential treatment programs across the country.

Chris is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and completed his graduate training at Pepperdine University and The California School of Professional Psychology, earning two master’s degrees and a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. He is an expert in aftercare and transition and has presented his work on relapse prevention at national and regional conferences including NATSAP and IECA, regional school conferences, and parent training conferences in Illinois and California.

On a personal note, Chris, and his wife have been married since 1994. They have four children and together they live in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He enjoys coaching his sons’ little league teams, sports, traveling, and spending time with his family. He’s an avid BYU fan and during the fall season, you’re likely to find him in the LaVell Edwards stadium, cheering the BYU Cougar football team on to victory.

Tessa Olsen

Tessa earned a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management with an emphasis in Recreational Therapy from Brigham Young University.  She has worked with individuals in a variety of settings. She worked with state hospitals and individuals with Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorders, as well as individuals with depression and anxiety.  She worked as a Recreational Therapist intern at New Haven Residential Treatment Center for teenage girls. In June 2016, Tessa joined the team at Discovery Ranch as a Recreational Therapist and has loved working with and learning from the individuals there.

Tessa has a passion for working with the teenage population and their families because of the transformation that they choose to make in their lives.  She believes in the power of choice for each individual, as well as the power of change.

On a personal note, Tessa was born and raised in Orem, Utah.  She grew up with 4 brothers and learned to never back down from a challenge.  In her free time, she can be found in the outdoors exploring them through hiking, camping or driving through them.  She also loves any sport she is introduced to, including soccer, basketball, football, tennis, and ice hockey.
